The Waterline Between What Every Recruiter Can See and What We Already Know

October 1, 2026

Every recruiter in freight can read a resume. A title. Years in the industry. A revenue number. That is the part above the waterline, and it is visible to everyone.

Below the surface is what actually governs the outcome.

Commission architecture. Which companies pay 10% from dollar one with zero thresholds. Pricing infrastructure. Which forwarders own their own aircraft and control the best air pricing out of Asia, and which NVOCCs own ships and control their own ocean rates. Ownership model. Which companies are backed by venture capital and private equity. Sales manager behaviour. Which managers show up on calls and help you close, and which ones leave you to figure it out alone.

None of that is research we run during a search. It is knowledge we already hold before the first conversation starts, accumulated over years operating exclusively inside freight forwarding.

Here is the part most of the industry misses: a candidate placed on the wrong platform is not a talent failure. It is a knowledge failure. And it happens above the waterline, where most searches stop.

Specialist depth changes the outcome of a search in ways a generalist recruiter structurally cannot replicate. 🔽
