The Things We Still Catch Ourselves Getting Wrong Before a Search

October 1, 2026

After years of specialist freight forwarding recruitment, there are still habits we have not fully broken. Here is an honest account of what we do before a search feels right.

We still revisit the brief after the first candidate conversation. The intake call is never the whole picture, and assuming it is has cost us time we could not get back.

We still over-research a platform before we feel ready to represent it to a candidate. Borderline platforms exist. We find it hard to move forward until we can articulate exactly what kind of producer belongs there, and why.

We still rewrite the shortlist rationale more than once, even when the names feel right on instinct. Freight forwarding fluency is not the same as a defence we can stand behind clearly, and we insist on being able to defend it.

We still hold a search longer than some hiring managers would prefer when the platform fit question is not yet resolved. Filling the seat on schedule and placing the right producer on the right platform are two different things. We have not found a way to treat them as equal.

This is not incompetence. It is what rigorous, niche-specific search work looks like from the inside. We know which companies pay 10% commission from dollar one with zero thresholds. We know which sales managers will show up on calls with you and which ones will leave you to figure it out alone. That depth of knowledge is exactly why we cannot take shortcuts getting to the answer.

If you recognise these habits in your own hiring process, let us talk. We work with freight forwarding companies who want the right producer, not just the next available one.

At Darius and Company, we don't just find you a job. We find you a better platform.
