Most freight sales producers measure progress by the size of the last offer they accepted. We measure it by whether they are still closing in that seat, and growing past it.
The belief makes sense. In freight sales, the offer number is the clearest thing you can compare. A bigger number reads as a step up, so you take it.
Here is what the number doesn't tell you. A bigger paycheck in a seat that can't support your lanes or your shippers will quietly reset the book that earned you the offer in the first place. That is a step sideways that only looks like a step up.
Progression in this industry is built by closing. Nothing else. The seat that lets you keep closing is the one that opens more scope, more responsibility, and a bigger role down the line. The seat that stalls your book doesn't do that, no matter what it pays on day one.
This is why we don't fill seats. We deliver closers. A placement only counts for us if the producer is still closing, and still growing, long after the offer is signed.
➡️ Judge the offer by what the seat lets you become inside that company, not only by what it pays on the first day.
